My mom has always warned me never to swerve or overcorrect when driving, but every day driving to softball practice I have to break this piece of advice due to Litton Road. Litton Road is located behind Danner Park. Drivers in the community have many reasons to drive on this road:access to the family friendly playground, getting to the neighborhood they live in, or to get to Danner Park to attend sporting events. Unfortunately, Litton Road is not safe. This road is a danger to the community and exemplifies the city's neglect of roads in Chillicothe, which increases the risk of automobile accidents and damage to vehicles. First, Litton Road reflects poorly on the town and shows neglect of the roads. Neglect is shown by not filling in the potholes and letting taxpayers continue to drive on this road. This road is not pleasant to drive. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Driving on this road is always something I dread, but it’s a mandatory task in order to get to softball practice every day. In addition to the potholes, it is bumpy and uneven. When cars hit the potholes, your car feels like it is hitting the potholes much harder than they are. There is no upkeep of the road, which reflects negatively on the community. Secondly, people behind the wheel have to swerve to miss not only the potholes but also other cars. There is an excessive number of potholes that are never fixed. Driving on Litton Road makes the the automobile feel like it’s going to be sucked into the ground. In order to avoid the potholes, drivers must swerve, which is dangerous. As a result, this causes drivers to then swerve to miss an oncoming car. The way I see it, the longer the city lets the craters sink in the ground, the greater the chance of a wreck. Furthermore, citizens spend money on vehicles; they should not have to worry about what roads they take in town. Litton road is a shortcut that people take to go home and to events. With the road being as dangerous as it is, some do not even bother to take this road. Some drivers will take a longer, safer route to get to their destination safely. Having to avoid a road to reach a destination is an annoyance. Drivers should not have to worry about which roads are safe. Some people say “a car is just a car,” but for those who want to keep their cars in a good condition, Litton Road is an inconvenience. My mom’s advice is always right, but how am I supposed to follow her advice if I am forced to drive on a road that prohibits my attempts to drive safely? Neglect is shown to the citizens of Chillicothe by the potholes not being filled. This road is dangerous and people avoid this road to lower the risk of getting in a wreck. Damage to vehicles from a road is not something people should have to worry about. Litton Road will be a danger for people to drive on until the city repaves or fixes the road.
